QiB1 and QiB2 launched

Two new Qubit-in-a-Box devices: QiB1 for testing control hardware and software, and QiB2 for studying two-qubit coupling and teaching.

In March 2025 we added two devices to the Qubit-in-a-Box family, next to QiB0.

QiB1: six qubits, three levels of control

QiB1 has six qubits in two sets: three shunted Xmon-style transmons and three floating-island transmons. Each set has one fixed-frequency qubit driven through its readout resonator, one fixed-frequency qubit with its own drive line, and one tunable qubit with drive and flux lines. Two bare resonators complete the chip. It is built for validating drive and flux lines, comparing transmon geometries, and developing control software.

QiB2: two ways to couple qubits

QiB2 has seven qubits: a pair of tunable qubits coupled through a fixed coupler, a pair of fixed-frequency qubits coupled through a tunable coupler, and three single qubits for calibration. It is for studying two-qubit gates, building calibration tools, and teaching.

Package

Today both ship wire-bonded in the Box20, a gold-plated OFHC copper box with 20 radial SMPM connectors. SMPM-to-SMA cables are available on request. Fixed-frequency elements run below 50 mK; tunable elements need about 10 mK.

The current datasheets list the specifications and a measured reference device for each.
